PESTICIDE COMPLIANCE: CALENDAR OF EVENTS

Pesticide Container Recycling In cooperation with the Agricultural Container Research Council (ACRC), the Pesticides Section provides an empty pesticide container recycling program in the State of Delaware. This program has collected and shredded for recycling, over 100,000 HDPE (high density polyethylene) plastic containers since its inception in 1993. Every 3rd Thursday for the months April through October from 9:30AM-1:30PM. HDPE pesticide containers are collected at the Sussex Conservation District, Maintenance Yard, Shortly Rd, Georgetown, DE, (about ¼ mile west of Rt. 113 intersection with Shortly Road). If growers or commercial applicators have large quantities of containers to recycle (greater than 100), on-site pickup by the Department can be arranged. Before accepting empty containers for recycling, they are closely inspected for cleanliness (they must be triple rinsed or equivalent). Labels should also be removed if they are not glued to the container.
After acceptance and delivery to the Department's recycling facility, the containers are baled and stored for later shipment to a recycling plant. The containers are processed and the plastic is reused to make park benches, pallets, pilings, fence posts, etc. They are not used in consumer packaging.

The next training program conducted by the University of Delaware Cooperative Extension and the Delaware Department of Agriculture will be held: February 2010 (date to be announced) It will be held on the Dover Campus of Delaware Technical and Community College on Scarborough Road in Room 400B of the Corporate Training Building. Each training session will 4 hours. The pesticide exam will be administered in the afternoon on same day. The Department of Agriculture will be conducting testing once each month in the Delaware Department of Agriculture Conference Center on Rt. 13 in Camden. The schedule is: Wednesday, January 27, 2010 – 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm
